Milanote : idea concept

I had been doing a brainstorm on Milanote.

From this point of view, I will start to plan my project by combine todays fashion and punk. I have been doing some research on 80's life style and I can come with my idea below, for instance, how would they entertain themselves, what is the definition of fashion at that time and what celebrities had represent the the trend of that time. These help me to extend and got my title " 20's punk ". Besides that, my first initial thoughts of this project if the punk become the trend, how would it change the definition for now a days fashion.

Ideas generation for project

This week, our class need to have a brainstorm of our first major project, which need to relate our major subject. Therefore, I had some idea of the fashion with Punk style. Think about if Punk being a fashion trends on 20s, how would the manufacturers and the fashion industry to define and propose the design with Punk...

' The 80s was the most amazing year '. I had already heard a hundred times from my mother. She always said that the 80s belonged to the year which full of color and innovation. Not only the fashion, food and entertainment culture, whether it is the culture of Hong Kong or United Kingdom, they all were developed very prosperously in the 1980s. At that time, there were also had a very conspicuous but unacceptable for the society culture-The Punk. You might think that it seems to be really normal in our fashion today, but in contrast, it was totally different situation at those time. Let me introduce some details with Punk to you.

Cool Pics That Defined The ’80s Punk Fashion

Punk fashion is the clothing, hairstyles, cosmetics, jewellery, and body modifications of the punk subculture.

Represent color: Red / Black / White /Green

Punk culture publish in the 1970-80s. At the beginning, it used to be a musical rebellious movement, the main purpose was to resist and oppose some avant-garde rock. It is subversive, rebellious and anarchistic. In addition, It was based on a certain topic that the problem with the society facing in the mid-1970s after World War II, such as the lower class had being repressed by the government and higher class... Punk culture had brought these message to society, reminding that not everyone is doing well and not everyone is the same. Under the economic downturn and the special socio-political background, lots of young people in the lower class of British society has been join and be the part with an anti-traditional composed-the Punk.

The Punk group use their maverick dress style to show themselves that they are difference from the normal culture or other youth subcultures. They rejected authority, advocated the elimination in class and also "sex and subversion". Therefore there were not only affect with the pop music, at the same time it is also a resistance and rebellion against fashion.

At the most of the time, they usually call themselves DIY (doityourself), remake and reproduce with cheap clothing and fabrics, and the Punks like to use dog chains as a decorations, wearing with open threads or frayed edges clothes,  print with vulgar words or maybe some violent t-shirt, stockings, and wear the classic sign-Dr Martin. Hairstyles are also one of the focus points of punk styles. They spray up their hair with a really high level and dyed in different brightness colors, apply smoky makeup, dark-toned lipstick, pierce with the part of body, for example: ears, nose, cheeks and lips with safety pins, in various ways to against their traditional society.

CREATE AN ADVERTISEMENT : BEAUTY

Hello! Is me again. This week, our class are going to create an advertisement for selling something, such as product, significance or even for charity which need to relate my own subject. Let me show the journey and process to you. Then, here we go!

I have notice that in this society, people no matter boys or girls, everyone always pursuit with the beauty and have a plastic surgery, want to fit the one and being the one who is perfect from other. Also the coupled with the trend of the idols, more people imitate with their appearance to attract public attention, want to be special. So I just want to create an advertisement that to remind people be theirselves, the plastic can not last too long and you will getting old one day. Let take off the burden and remember you are beautiful, no one can be replace with you, you are already a special gift for this world.

My Work:

Let start with me!

At the first step, I had created and divided the same character into two. The left hand side is sketching with pencil( HB 2B 4B 6B 8B) on the paper. The character has not accept any artificial changes, no makeup and plastic surgery, which represent the most authentic side of us. The right hand side, I had used some marker pens which all were in warm tones to draw with and I had also used the black one to high light with hair and some cosmetic lines, to increase a higher contrast color with the whole picture. This character represent of us whose are chasing and want to be the perfect one of other.

The second step, opened with Photoshop and created an A4 size white color document.  I had choose and tuned the picture into a sandy beige color, it would be feels like nostalgia and comfortable for the whole tone of the background.

To be continues, search 'zipper' on the chrome and save the one which is suitable for the work, download it to the computer. Furthermore, turn on the Photoshop again and open the picture that you have save, select the option with' magic wand ', and then click with the zipper, ' command '+' C ' to copy the object.

Take a photo with those artworks which you had already prepared before, and sent to the Photoshop. To start with the first file with the orange marker pen drawing, separate it into three parts, these would be used for the cutting effect later. Use the ' magic wand ' equally and repeat the same step with zipper. Select three of them and ' command '+' C ' to copy the object separately.

Besides, combine and paste those three parts of picture together again, make sure there have some space between the middle of the face. And then, add and paste the zipper on the top of the character, in order to imitate the fake face mark is being zipping off and flipping down.

Moreover, open the another file with the pencil drawing, do the same step with zipper, select with ' magic wand ' and click with the object, ' command '+' C ' to copy it.

Paste with the same page of character, remember change the position of the another layer, the pencil drawing should be covered by the marker drawing. Hence, you would see the result should temporary to be like this.

Next step, use color pencil of the Photoshop, select a brighter color. I had choose the orange one to match with background color. Outline with a flat curve line, repeating the same step and create a frame for the picture.

If you want the whole structure to be rich in color or to be more layer, pick with the color pencil again, and add a thick black borders, paint with some shadows and retro waves, that would definitely make everything to be feel like vintage.

The final step, open Google Fonts on the chrome, find the word template that you like or appropriate with the topic, select the style and click with ' download '.

Go back to the Photoshop again, type some words on the picture, the word style would be already shown in the option and you can select that, add some sentences for the advertisement.

To sum up everything, here would get a final result like this.

Hope you enjoy this journey and do not forget how beautiful you are.

CLASS TASK : SEQUENTIAL IMAGES

LOOP-THE-LOOP

Common Room
15th October

This is the first time I know about the photographic sequences, take down a few continuous shots can actually tell the story or even capture the moving action within the frame, it is amazing and interesting to catch up those moment. I had notice that there are common when you try to record the sports in action or a fast moving object that are astonishing, and you do not want to miss it. So I just wondering why not record a unpredictable, fast and irritating work : Bottle Flipping.

Bottle Flipping was a trend of involved throwing a plastic bottle, fill of liquid partially, flip it and let the bottle spin in the air, attempt to land it upright on its base surface.

This challenge has been popular and became a trend in world since 2016 already, but I never try this before. So, this recorded video seems simple to do it, but in fact, it is challenging for me, I had already tried more than twenty times to flip the bottle and made it success. For the process of miss up experience, I had gradually to know the skills of flipping, the main principle is catch up the gravity of bottle, the amount of water and the method of throwing the bottle out, these would be the factor of the challenge success or not.

For avoiding with my flatmate waiting a long time to record the work being success, I decided to use the front lens of my iphone, and put it on the couch to record the whole process. And used the pause function of iphone to take a screen shot the moment I want after recording.

After taking a screen shot of the work, I used Be Funk the photo editing app which proposal by our tutor, to put all the pictures into the square form from left to right sequentially, which used to make it clear to understand.

And then, I transfer the work to Photoshop for modification some details. I had changed to black and white of the picture, increase the contrast ratio, the definition and sharpness. These can emphasize the sculpture of water bottle and also balance the low resolution from the recording. Without the colors, picture become neat and tidy, it would be focusing more of the bottle flipping, and these effects has enhance the visual impact of the work.

I think this work is a good experience for the first time of processing a sequential images, from planning how to shoot to use media to produce the post-production, success to finish flipping and develop the basic skills with a new edit app, it had been a new stage of development for me.

'Face off' was an American reality television game show program, and this program had already been filmed about 13 seasons. This reality show had put a group of prothetic makeup artists together and they needed to create protheses who those can be found in science fiction and horror films in every single competition. The artists had to use their professional knowledge and skills to conform in each topic, they also need to avoid falling into the elimination list every time and created an excellent final work to win the competition.

I think they were all had done a good job and they were all outstanding, because some were self-study with makeup, some were already work for that, and some were even just contact special makeup for only nine months before the competition, however those various reasons did not discouraged their determination to participate with their artworks. Most of them can finished with a perfect artwork under the high pressure environment which is an amazing things, since it is hard to complete all in just three days, from drawing sketches to plan and apply effects makeup on the model. Additionally, it was also an interesting observation, to know their style or different expertise, what materials they were good at. On this competition you can even know the basic understanding of the steps to create a special effect makeup artwork. Making molds, dress up, decorations, you would know that all the details would affect the final present of the work, so they should be balance and matched up with everything.

But what it inspires me from this competition is not just a target to be the one of them whose full of creative and technique skills, but also to learn how do you use what you have now. Many artists of the competition had been eliminated was because they were showing off too much what everything they know, and then put it all together on the artwork, finally there were wasting too much unnecessary time and effort. Furthermore, do not be afraid to make mistake, it is time to gain experience, listen and ask, there are always something worth to be learned by everyone. And after watching this television program, I had been notice more about prothetic makeup and I want to learn and develop myself more in this area, hope can be join and work with large-scale production. For instance, avatar, guardians of the galaxy, avengers those impressive blockbuster.
