For this blog post, I will be introducing some trends of 2021 spring and summer looks, I looked at different brands and their collection but also at fashion sources. In order to coordinate with my main idea concept ’Victorian Period style’, bringing out the sense of elegance and also of course the project theme ‘Purple Haze’, I would mainly focus on these elements on the research, help influence and combine into my ideas.
1. Irregular and structural design
This season was common with the pleated element pattern. The irregular designs are fashionable, unconventional and have a strong sense of deconstruction, they are also able to move with a carefree extent. I like the pattern and this trend is quite similar with the Victorious period’s outwear features, maybe I can analyze and try to integrate it’s 3D and wrinkled elements into the project.
2. Side waist hollow design
The cutout of the side waists has been a hot trend of 2021, frequently appearing on different designers' collections. I was really interested in the cutting, the design highlighted the shape of the body, added a bit of sexy but not being too indecent. I wanted to combine with the long skirt, it might be the visual surprise of the final outcome.
3. Big bold puff sleeves
This fashion sign had been discussed in the last project, and the trend also continues to be seen everywhere in this spring/summer catwalk stage. The puffy, exaggerated sleeves and shoulders were exactly started to appear in the Victorian Period, the history completely affected and led the trend to nowaday fashion. Therefore it would be a really suitable sign for one of the collections or maybe more.
4. Light, sheer fabrics
The nearly see through design brings out a strong visual impact of the whole design, this lightness and softness fabric occupy and receive a high attention in this season. I am excited to approach this trend into my work, this fabric seems so modern and unique, it would be interesting when I combine the contrast colour or monochromatic color into the design.
5. Petal Floral Print
Bold and bright color metals florals had attracted lots of attention for this spring time, it can be approached by mixing floral printing everywhere. I personally like the overview of the design being clean and simple, not showing off too much pattern and also based on my digital drawing technique is not that good, so it would be a challenge for me to combine this trend into the project. I’ve to hesitate with the outcome.
6. Visible Bras
The next trend gaining the momentum on both on the street or stage, bras on top can present the opportunity to show some skin, Simone Rocha’s design is a nice influence for me to think about this trend can carried with sensual and even elegance with the XL size shirt. I like how he redefine the design and also can appears in different way. I would combine this trend into the project, it might look great with adding on top of the skirt, adding a sense of femininity.
7. Netting and hole
Netting can present a different attitude under using different materials, for intense:wool, metal or leather. The various materials can enhance the visual interest, and for this trend I feel like really novel and vanguard, so I might combined with my project, being the vest or top.
